My Country Life Farm
Welcome to my country life farm, I will be adding hobby farming ideas along the way and I hope you will add some for me. I am fairly new at this.
I want to show you how I plan to set up my country life farm, including chickens, a goat, and a year round garden or greenhouse.
I'm not sure where this will lead.
If you have any ideas or information...please pass it along.
I will be the first to admit it, I get lots of my hobby farming ideas from the internet. Although I live in Canada, there are many similarities between here and farming in the US, and to get some more great farming ideas, check out a great source from my friend Joe's site, he shows us
back to basics, homesteading and farming in the us.
A Few Simple Reminders on Summer Garden Care
Mowing is important for your lawn's health but to prevent turf damage, do not remove more than a third of the leaf blade. Mowing to short can cause stress. I find a mowing height of 2.5 inches (6.4cm) is ideal for minimizing heat stress and reducing watering requirements.
Mulching the soil surface helps to reduce weed growth, it keeps soil temperatures even, helps retain moisture in soil, improves soil quality and also prevents soil erosion. Mulches also provide texture and color, they unify a plant area, they cover the bare spaces before plants mature.
Pruning maintains plant health, it trains the plant and promotes balance between growth and flowering/fruit bearing. Pruning also improves overall quality: the amount of wood is reduced and energy is diverted into the production of larger and better quality flowers and/or fruit. Use the right tools and keep them properly maintained.
Watering and fertilizing will keep a healthy plant and encourage profuse blooms.Water wisely: too much water can be as harmful as not enough ( and environmentally wasteful).Use the proper fertilizer at the proper time- follow product instructions.
